Bas-Armagnac

Located to the west of the eponymous region: Bas-Armagnac is located at a low altitude, between 60 and 120 m elevation. It is called “Armagnac Noir” because of its hilly landscape, covered with forests of small oaks. It enjoys a mild and temperate climate thanks to the Landes forest, which protects it from oceanic influence. The sea has in fact left airy soils called “tawny sands” composed of clay, silicas and ferruginous elements, among others, which give a smooth and fruity wine brandy with notes of vanilla.

Bas-Armagnac owes its reputation to its tawny sands. Being the most planted region, this makes it the main production area. In fact, grape cultivation is predominant there, and therefore also dedicated to other alcohols (Floc de Gascogne and Vin de Gascogne). The region thus represents more than 65% of the areas identified for the production of this same wine.
