Ténarèze

La Ténarèze, beautiful in its name, is located in the center of the Armagnac region. It is a hilly country, crossed by a ridge path. From prehistoric times, this was taken as a transhumance route. Also called “Caesar's path” by the Romans, it allowed those who took it to travel between Bordeaux and the Pyrenees without having to cross a bridge and be cheerful.

Geographically, being less protected, the region is regularly swept by the south-east wind; the climate there being more Mediterranean. Its soil is fertile: In fact, in addition to being sandy-clayey (boulbene) and silty in the valley bottoms, it is also clay-limestone (terrefort) on the slopes.

It brings an eau-de-vie of unique and incomparable richness and ardor, thanks to a bouquet of spices and violets, reaching maturity after prolonged aging, which allows this alcohol to be often used in the assemblies to bring a full-bodied flavor.

The Ténarèze vineyard represents around 30% of the identified areas of Armagnac production.

Small Note:

With its translucent look, La Blanche-Armagnac is a mention for a brandy that is a little apart. It is indeed an eau-de-vie which does not benefit from aging in wood, therefore it is not considered as a so-called "official" designation such as the Bas. -Armagnac.
