5 facts about Armagnac

01.

Armagnac, this royal alcohol

D'Artagnan, then captain lieutenant of the Musketeers, introduced Armagnac to Louis XIV. Drunk for this drink, the Sun King makes it a liquid strictly intended for royalty! 

While worldwide alcohols have often become industrial products, armagnac is keen to strengthen its place as wine spirits registered in a region and uses: a precious artisanal product produced by men with ancient know-how. Without being elitist now, armagnac is a noble French product that carries value!

COGNAC and ARMAGNAC, these enemy brothers

In the market, armagnac lives in the shadow of its brother. In fact, the turnover of cognac is higher than that of armagnac, in particular thanks to exports. A historic international influence which can be explained by the strategic location of the city of cognac… Connected to the Atlantic Ocean by its river, the Charente, cognac enjoys an exposure that its elder brother envies!

Armagnac draws its fame from combat / Armagnac, this brave soldier

The term "Armagnac" comes from the name of the Frankish general "Armin" which means  "Mighty warrior" in Old Germanic. On the strength of his exploits during the battle of Vouillé in 507 against the Visigoths, Clovis gave him land in the southwest of France. It will take its name and will become the county of Armagnac!

Armagnac, this virtuous nectar

A famous treatise on medicine from 1310 kept in the Vatican, drawn up by Master Vital Dufour, prior of Eauze, lists, among the forty virtues of armagnac, its sovereign utility for "melancholics, podagres", as well as for "the pregnant woman, if she drinks it from time to time moderately ". According to the religious's work, Armagnac "sharpens the mind if you take it in moderation", "stops tears from flowing", "heals hepatitis if you drink it with sobriety", "loosens the tongue and gives 'daring to the timid' and 'the frequent anointing of a paralyzed limb returns it to its normal state'. What a feat!

Armagnac, a true tender heart

After 25 years, the Armagnacs lose their strength and soften. Their original character then fades and gives way to the aromas of oak barrels; their length in the mouth becomes remarkable and rich in flavors. A stroke of old that enchants more than one. 

As you ripen, do like Armagnac, soften up!
